Even before the Wright Brothers first took flight in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, more than one time has man always wanted to or tried to take to the skies. I for one would be very happy to wake up one day with wings. Just think about it. The wind, the freedom. It would be amazing. Until then, I've taken to games like Fly Run to get my virtual flying fix.

While a fly lacks the stature of a soaring Bald Eagle, the little insect will have to do for now, since Fly Run is the game I've been taking for a spin around the house for the past week. Within the app, there are two game modes, including free roam and time attack. For those flying simulator fans out there, free roam is a great chance to take in the scenery while learning the ins and outs of taking flight with a fly.

If that's not enough, and for me it wasn't, then time attack is exactly what will get gamers in the mood for some intense flying. Within this mode, the high-flying ace bomber needs to dodge toasters, cups and other objects to finish under the time limit. There's also another twist. The gamer has to miss all these objects and beat the timer while also collecting nectar orbs. If all of this is accomplished, then the gamer will get to the next level and fly another time. While hitting the orbs as fast as possible is the point, there are also other bonuses to hit, such as a heart that adds 10 seconds to the timer or a clock that freezes time for 5 seconds.

Six rounds and 30 levels later, I uncovered very helpful hints to get the fly from point A to point B in the fastest time possible. For instance, the gameplay is very true to how a fly truly dips, turns, ascends and more. Because of this, the fly has no brakes, kind of like a jet ski. This causes time problems if the precious nectar orbs are missed because passing them and turning around made me lose a lot of time and risk the chance of not making the finish line in time.

Based on its interesting game mechanics, twist on the generations old house fly and challenging race to the finish, Fly Run is a solid flying adventure.
