Wondering what to do for fun in the near and distant future? Eventful has it covered, even if it can be forgetful.
The app offers plenty of information on all the latest events, sports, concerts and movies that are happening locally, no matter what one's location is. It's just as comfortable checking out things in Lower Manhattan, as it is in a quiet town in South Wales. Even better, thanks to some connectivity with Spotify, iTunes and Last.fm, it'll even figure out what would be most appealing to the user.
It's simple to use with the focus placed on the "For You" section of the app. Listing plenty of events, along with dates, times and locations, it's simple to browse and discover more. In each case, it's also possible to thumbs up or down the entry, ensuring that Eventful learns one's tastes for next time. Look under Music specifically and the location aware side of things falters a little. For me, the app offered a selection of events around New York, as well as one that was actually local to me. Filtering options helps here, though.
A movies section is the other priority here, although again it comes with issues. There's an expansive list of films out at the moment, along with details about them, but it still managed to miss out Danny Boyle's latest release, a film I saw last night, Trance. Even after searching via the filter, it didn't show up, although it was there through a separate check by cinema.
Other events are also searchable through a separate tab, opening up options for food festivals, family events and galleries. Again, it works similarly well and is clean and concise to browse through.
Eventful, is for the most part, a useful app. Excluding its oddities with getting confused about my location, it's still quite an appealing package. The personalized recommendations prove to be the icing on the cake.
