While there is an official Elder Scrolls action RPG coming to the App Store later in the year (you can find out more about the game, The Elder Scrolls: Blades by clicking right here), at the moment you need to go unofficial if you want to scratch your Skyrim itch. Which is why we're written this list of the top games like Skyrim for iPhone.

As usual there's some leftfield choices thrown in there, but we like to think that's why you keep coming back to 148Apps. We've included download links, so if any of the games tickle your fancy you're only a couple of clicks away from getting them onto your device.

If you've got your own suggestions for iPhone games like Skyrim, make sure you let us know in the comments at the bottom of the page. And click here to check out all of the other brilliant lists we've been creating for you lately.

Planescape: Torment - download for iPhone and iPad

There are plenty of games on the App Store that in one way or another, during their life, have influenced The Elder Scrolls games. This is a prime example of an old school Western RPG, with a huge amount to see and do, plenty of quests to complete, and one of the best stories from the golden age of RPG storytelling.

Legend of Grimrock - download for iPhone and iPad

As retro as this one feels, it's actually a pretty modern game. You're exploring the titular dungeon one square at a time, trying to keep your party alive as it's confronted by skeletons, monsters, and all sorts of other unpleasant things. It might not have the action of Skyrim, but since you're playing on touchscreen that's not such a bad thing.

Severed - download for iPhone and iPad

This one, on the other hand, is filled with action. It's slicey, swipey action in a gorgeous cartoon world that's packed to the rafters with Mexican folklore. There are some brilliant ideas here, and while it doesn't have the scale of Skyrim, it's still a brilliant RPG experience that you should check out at your earliest possible convenience.

Ravensword: Shadowlands - download for iPhone and iPad

Of all the games on this list, Shadowlands is the one that owes the most to The Elder Scrolls. It's a big, open world action adventure game that sees you setting out to save the world from a variety of fantastical problems. It doesn't have the polish of the games that inspired it, but for sheer audacity alone it's well worth playing.

The Banner Saga 2 - download for iPhone and iPad

It might not be mechanically similar to Skyrim, but when it comes to gloomy Viking stories filled with monsters and death, you're going to be hard pressed to find a better example on the App Store at the moment. It's tough and tense, and the tale it weaves is heartbreaking and awe-inspiring in equal measures.
