It's time for a new Call of Duty it seems, with Infinite Warfare launching this weekend. Infinity Ward is taking us into space to fight it out with an evil corporation this time around, and so far the single-player campaign is, if anything, looking quite pretty.

If you're psyched for the next entry in this long-standing franchise, but don't know what to do with your restless fingers, why not try your hand at one of these finely crafted mobile shoot 'em ups? Mobile isn't exactly the ideal platform for shooters, but some of these games have made it work quite well. Let's take a look.

Modern Combat 5

+ Universal & Apple Watch App - Designed for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch
Released: 2014-07-24 :: Category: Game

FREE!

Modern Combat 5: Blackout is perhaps the ultimate first-person mobile shooter set in the modern day. It's so finely tuned, in fact, that we gave it 4.5 stars when it first launched all the way back in 2014. You take on the role of an ex-marine who's on a mission to take out a notorious international terror organization. The single-player campaign packs enough substance to keep you satisfied, but presents missions in smaller chunks to suit the mobile platform. The game also boasts a rich character customization system with plenty of classes to explore and a nice weapons arsenal.

Deus Ex: The Fall

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2013-07-10 :: Category: Game

$4.99

Presenting a mobile follow-up to Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a pretty lofty goal, but Square Enix somehow managed to pull it off. It's a very capable FPS, the gameplay well-suited to ensuring you forget about the often messy storyline. Players run around Panama City trying to escape without succumbing to the corruption and civil unrest running rampant. As you might expect, the game is stealth-heavy, making it the perfect game for people who prefer sneaking around to going into a fight guns blazing.

Midnight Star

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2015-02-05 :: Category: Game

FREE!

Abandoning traditional FPS mechanics for carefully choreographed taps and swipes, Midnight Star takes a new approach to the mobile shooter. You run automatically, swiping to aim and tapping to fire your weapon. The game looks super polished, and although the game does include in-app purchases, you can play through the entire campaign at your own pace without spending a dime.

UNKILLED - Zombie Online FPS

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2015-09-03 :: Category: Game

FREE!

Any good shooter list needs a zombie game. Enter Unkilled, where the aim of the game is to blast through hordes of zombies while building up your character and upgrading your weapons. This is a game that doesn't take itself too seriously and is stronger for it. It's nice and cathartic, and the simple controls make gameplay smooth.

Sure, mobile might not be your go-to platform when you think of a quality FPS, but we think the entries on this list are all worthy shooters. Give one of them a try the next time you're looking for something to add to your mobile gaming library.
