Word games are fun. Any sane person can appreciate that, right? So, how about checking out Mega Multilingual Word Find? It is indeed quite a long name for a game but it’s a fun concept.
From the makers of Word Lubbers, Mega Multilingual Word Find is a wordsearch game that’s not only fun, it’s potentially educational!
Mega Multilingual Word Find offers numerous different categories, catering for all interests. Categories include athletics, body parts, clothing, colors, crime, feelings, food, mammals, science, travel, weather and numerous others. There’s also the option to unlock additional languages comprising of Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish.
To further add to the educational benefits, players can choose different puzzle and word list languages so that the player can learn as they search.
Mega Multilingual Word Find is out now and it’s a free download. To unlock all the languages, there’s an in-app purchase priced at $4.99 or users can unlock one language at a time for $0.99.
There’s a plentiful supply of Scrabble type games on the App Store with the most popular varieties being Scrabble itself and Words With Friends. Today marks the launch of a new word game much like the aforementioned twosome, keen to make its mark on the multiplayer word construction world.
Words Play is that game. Providing an attractive and playful exterior with smiley, cartoon faces guiding the player and a colorful board, Words Play certainly has the potential to be a big hit.
The word game concept we all know and love is there. Players take turns to create words from 7 tiles then place them on the board. The board has a variety of special places that provide double or triple point scores for respective letters or even the whole word. Bonus points are given for creating a word with all the available letters on the rack. Rather usefully, there’s the addition of an in-app dictionary so that players who don’t recognize a word, can just tap on the selection and learn a bit about the term.
Words Play offers a selection of modes. There’s the head to head mode for players who want to play against a friend who’s sitting near them. Then there’s the online multiplayer functionality via the title’s Game Center support. The player can choose to be automatically matched with a random opponent or they can hook up with a friend on their Game Center friends list. For the anti social gamer, there’s also the prospect of competing against the adaptive AI player for the additional price of a $0.99 in-app purchase.
Words Play is a neat little package that’s no doubt sounding pretty appealing right now to words games fans. So readers will be excited to hear that we have 20 promo codes to give away! All you have to do is check in on our Twitter account where we’ll be giving away codes shortly. Obviously, you’re already following us but if not, we’re @148apps.
Who can resist a word game? I know I can’t which is exactly why I immediately checked out BetterLetter.
BetterLetter is a very simple word game but that’s often all that’s needed for a potent and enjoyable title. Available for free, it’s a game all about adding letters and forming increasingly more complex words from the line up. Pitting the player against another human player or with the AI, each player takes turns in adding letters in their efforts to create the longest word possible and gain the most points.
It’s a simple idea and one that I’m sure I’ve played before as a pen and paper game, but a great way to pass the time. The dictionary included with the game is pretty comprehensive coming up with all manners of words that I didn’t even know existed. Curse my average vocabulary.
BetterLetter also provides themes soon, in order to inspire creativity. These will include a Christmas theme as well as a Breakfast theme amongst others.
BetterLetter is available now for the grand price of nothing. Players can also pay out $0.99 to remove the ads that support the free version, and they can buy a Science Fiction theme for the same price.
Word games are fun and the ideal game to drop into on a daily commute, or simply when there’s five minutes spare in the day. One such word game that fits this description is RhymieStymie.
It’s a free app, backed up with a series of in-app purchases, that offers a form of rhyming challenge. It’s simple to learn: players are given a short clue and they have to come up with a two word rhyming answer that means the same thing. It’s the kind of thing that takes a few seconds to get into the right mindset but it’s not long before ‘criminal crustacean’ easily turns into ‘mobster lobster.’
That’s mostly it. There aren’t any super flashy graphics or annoyed birds getting in the way. It’s simply a fun concept that gets the old gray matter ticking. Sometimes that’s all that’s needed in a fun and wordy puzzle.
Check out the video below for more of an overview.
It hasn’t been until recently that I’ve really begun to explore my iPhone’s capacity for online gaming. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s certainly not the best platform for drawn-out battles, but it’s great for quick random matches. And it’s a good fit for a game like Wordy Findy.
There’s absolutely nothing to it: just download the app (for free), choose a name to play under and just wait for the next game to start. Matchmaking is handled automatically. Once a game starts, players have around two minutes to find as many words as possible by tracing a line between connecting letters. Completed words earn points based on the values of the letters used and handy information like total available words and points are shown after each game. A scoreboard with each participant’s name and score is also displayed between rounds, igniting those instinctual fires of competition while still providing the more humble with anonymity.
Wordy Findy is in the App Store right now, and it’s completely free. Ad-supported with banners displayed at the bottom of the screen (mercifully out of the way), but still free.
Currently the most popular puzzle/word game in Russia, Latvia, Moldova, Kazahstan and Armenia is Doodle Hangman, a game that does exactly what the title suggests. It looks set to be a similarly popular experience in North America too.
Doodle Hangman is a multi language word game that offers over 1000 words in 6 different categories. Gameplay is – as expected – a hangman game with players picking letters in order to figure out what the word could be. It’s excellent, simple fun. The doodle part of the title is clearly obvious within the animations and there’s a charming style to the graphics of the poor unfortunate soul about to be hanged.
Doodle Hangman is a simple game but it makes for an addictive experience, much like the paper and pen game that it’s based on. The multi language support is also a great touch, potentially helping players who are trying to learn another language.
Doodle Hangman is available now for free and it’s an universal app.
From publisher Wellcome Trust and developer Toytek comes Filth Fair, a word-based puzzle game for the iPhone and iPad.
The Filth Fair has you select objects from a painting and then solve a word puzzle based on that object. As the game’s title suggests, the main theme here is filth, so each word has something to do with dirtiness, evil, ill morals or other general nastiness. The painting consists of a fair ground covered with animals, such as bears, elephants, pigs, cows and iconic characters, such as Adam and Eve. All together, there are over 331 different words to find, since each object in the game has more than one word associated with it.
The game offers help in the form of a cryptic clue and hint. You can also earn “Wild Stars” which reveal hidden letters. As you play and successfully solve the jigsaw word puzzles, you’ll earn medals and eventually the grand trophy.
Thus far, the game is enjoying positive user reviews – with an average rating of 4 stars on the App Store.
You can download and play The Filth Fair for free on the iTunes App Store.

Words With Friends is streamlined and elegant, and the user pool is just as speedy as the app itself. This is a must-have for Scrabble fans. It might lack features, but the Push notifications and the speed of the app itself make it my new Scrabble app of choice.

Word Ace is essentially a mash-up of Texas Hold 'Em and Scrabble. It's free, it's fun, and the online play is great; all you could ask for is a better offline option and this game would be golden. Still, it's definitely worth your time!
