I had a lot of fun with Silent Film Director last year, upon its initial release. Since then, we’ve seen the movie world lit up by the huge success of silent film The Artist, ably demonstrating how there’s still plenty of love for films without any spoken dialogue.

Creative types inspired by The Artist now have the perfect opportunity to demonstrate what wonders they can create with Silent Film Director, thanks to the launch of the iPhone Silent Film Festival.

Shoot a video through the app, submit it to the contest and possibly win an iPad or one of numerous other prizes. It’s as simple as that. For further inspiration, check out Silent Film Director’s YouTube channel, offering plenty of examples and contributions. Below is one of our favorites.

Participants have until May 28 to get their entries in. Full details regarding the Contest are available on developers MacPhun’s site. Good luck!

iPhone App - Designed for the iPhone, compatible with the iPad
Released: 2009-10-24 :: Category: Photography

I was a big fan of Silent Film Director when it was first released in April with it scoring a very respectable 4 stars out of 5.

Now users get a chance to get their hands on Silent Film Director if they haven’t already, thanks to MacPhun offering the standard version for free just for today.

The reason why is today would have been film icon Marilyn Monroe’s 85th birthday so this makes for a fitting tribute for those filmmakers wanting to create a slice of old fashioned video making.

The app is a simple and fun way of creating video footage that’s unique with a great cinematic quality to them. There’s a variety of different styles that can be used ranging from 1920s to 1970s with two types of Sepia available. Users can also add one of 8 built in soundtracks and the speed of creations can be adjusted to add humor or dramatic tension.

Silent Film Director is available for free until the end of the day so get in there while the offer is still on!
