5 best iOS games to play on a plane

Posted by Emily Sowden on August 24th, 2018

Some of you may absolutely leap at the chance to climb onboard an aeroplane. Some of you may not be too thrilled at the idea of flying, but will get on with it without much fuss. Some of you may be paralysed with fear, like me, from the moment you step in the airport.

However you handle flying, this is a handful of games you really shouldn't be without. I mean, it's not the end of the world if you don't have them, but they're good fun and a good distraction for those less tolerable of air travel – trust me.

Ironhide Game Studio prepares for a busy year; announces a new Kingdom Rush game

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

Kingdom Rush breathed fresh life into the tired tower defense genre way back in 2012. The game was a robust challenge that somehow managed to lift you up, rather than leaving you feeling crushed and hopeless. The rich array of unit types and towers made it one of the most elaborate mobile games of its time. Naturally with its quick rise to fame, many follow-ups would be made, the last of which, Kingdom Rush: Frontiers, launched in summer 2016.

Kingdom Rush Origins HD: Tips, Tricks, and Strategies For Being a Successful Leader

Calling All Kingdoms:
Want to know why we're calling it "one of the better tower defense games in recent times?" Check out our Kingdom Rush Origins review.

Easily one of the better tower defense games in recent times, Kingdom Rush Origins HD is a very enjoyable experience. While you might feel like an old hand at it, this might also be your first foray into the series. Either way, we’ve got some helpful tips and tricks to hopefully ensure that your success.

Duking it Out

A lot of the strategy behind winning at Kingdom Rush Origins HD is knowing how to use choke points.
  • Every level has one or more choke point - an area where the enemy is funneled through and is more open to attack, usually because of the environment around them. Figure each of them out and focus on using it to your advantage.

  • One good way of using a choke point to your advantage is to create a blockade of an archer tower along with a melee tower.

  • Archers are good at dishing out the damage but they’re too easy to get away from on their own. Combine them with a melee tower, however, and the ground troops slow the enemy down, enabling your archers to pick them off.

Posted by Jennifer Allen on July 2nd, 2012
iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

We adored Kingdom Rush when it first came out for the iPad at the end of last year. It offered an incredibly potent tower defense game that made a five minute quick session turn into hours.

Now, iPhone owners get to enjoy that level of addiction with the release of Kingdom Rush for iPhone! Priced at $0.99, the game pits heroes against hordes of orcs, trolls, evil wizards and more. Fortunately, a plethora of towers and spells will help players in their quest to defeat such evil.

Typical tower defense tropes are in there with special abilities to unlock, new tower types and the choice of upgrading them. 50 achievements to unlock and many boss battles to compete in will keep players hooked for a long time to come.

With a cartoon fantasy style, optimized for retina displays, Kingdom Rush should prove to enthrall everyone who downloads it.

It's out now, priced at $0.99.
