Fans of the classic Brick Breaker game will grow to love Monkey Pong—the newest title developed by Chechesoft. This arcade game not only features impressive retina graphics, but it also is packed with over 30 challenging levels.

At the start of each game, a spider drops down to deliver the ball to the adorable monkey. After the ball is dropped, players must maneuver the little fellow to keep it in the air for as long as possible. The intuitive controls are simple: tilt the device left or right to control the ape.

Players have five balls at the beginning of each level. As the ball retrieves fruit, gamers must try to grab as much of it as possible to fill the fruit meter on the left side of the screen. Dropping a ball results in the loss of one life, and dropping fruit causes the speed of the ball to increase, which makes it difficult to bounce the ball. The poison fruit that randomly falls is another obstacle players must avoid because it obstructs the game play.

Monkey Pong is full of many power-ups. Snatching up 10 fruits in a row boosts the score, and it also makes a bonus bird appear on the screen. Touching the bird with the ball causes it to release eggs, which in turn give players another bonus. Scoring high results in earned bananas that players need to unlock new levels. The new levels take place in a variety of environments that range from the jungle to the desert.

Although this game is a lot of fun to play, it doesn’t come without a few minor flaws. The controls were the main concern I had with the game. There were times when I felt confident that I had the ball, but it would plummet to the ground and cause my little monkey to become irate. Also, the ball moves incredibly slow at the start of each game and it seems to throw off the game's rhythm. Dropping a few pieces of fruit solves this problem, but it also affects the score and multiplier. A way to adjust the control sensitivity and initial ball speed would be ideal.

The other two inconveniences are that Monkey Pong does not incorporate any Game Center achievements or leaderboards, and there is no convenient way to mute or control the sound or music.

With a few minor improvements, this game has a lot of potential. From the funky music and impressive graphics to the addictive game play, Monkey Pong is one arcade game that players won’t want to pass up in the App Store. Don't monkey around with the decision to check it out today.
