I’ve talked many times before about app genres that work well on the iPhone, but never have I mentioned the face transforming apps as one of them. Given the iPhone’s snappy camera and wonderful touch screen, it seems only natural that these apps would be a developer’s dream.
There seem to be a thousand Halloween face changing apps out in the App Store right now, but there is no better one than iMut8r from Legacy Effects. Legacy Effects takes its strong reputation in Hollywood, creating digital scultptures for Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, and Iron Man 2 into the app world with the Halloween face app to end Halloween face apps. Instead of just letting you piddle around with a few silly options, iMut8r gives you seven character types (zombies, vampires, werewolves, witches, Frankenthings, demons, and ghouls), all of which have tons of options for each facial feature.
For example, on a simple feature like skin, most apps would just have some color change options and maybe a bandage or two. iMut8r gives you all sorts of color hues, sores that can cover different spots, hideous veins, and a pretty nice assortment of blood smears.
To make things look a bit more realistic, iMut8r also has a fade feature that lets you blend in some photo effects that wouldn’t otherwise look right. It doesn’t sound like much, but when putting a nasty sore on your face it’s pretty critical to get the effect to blend in with the skin.
If you are in the need for a spooky photo manipulator, look no further than iMut8r. It has more options and more hideous looking effects than any other app of its kind. For a dollar, there really isn’t a better investment that you can make this Halloween.
