Fun Town for Kids is an interactive app for young children with a city theme where one can scroll back and forth through a charmingly stylized urban landscape; exploring fourteen mini-games found in store fronts and other areas that line this busy street. The different brightly colored shops in Fun Town allow one to sort coins into like piles in a bank or help out in the candy store as a customer will choose, with the aid of an illustrated speech bubble, specific candy while also including fun photos of real candy such as candy canes and gummy candies - details that children will have fun with.
Many other areas are included to explore; as one can help a flower shop grow plants, build a burger correctly following pictorial directions, sort bills instead of coins at a second bank, and match shoes at a shoe store. Fruit and vegetable stores are included for sorting exercises as well as being able to bag purchases, play with bubbles, fix a broken street light, or build a bike in other areas of this app. I find it charming how this landscape includes areas such as the travel agency (where one completes a world map) and a pay phone (where one must place the numbers in the correct area of the dial pad) as these places are less common since the Internet and cell phones took off - allowing this app to be a bit nostalgic for adults.
I enjoy being able to tap the pedestrians on the street and an included watermelon truck adds a bit of whimsy, but I think one should be able to turn off the siren noises heard from the police car and fire truck as they become overwhelming to be around and contradict the slow pace and pleasant upbeat music found throughout this app. Likewise, although I appreciate the resolution of each of these scenes, the loud congratulatory sound effects letting children know they have completed the task at hand are a little jarring and not necessary. Even with these notes, Fun Town for Kids is certainly an enjoyable app for toddlers and early preschool-aged children.
