BlackOut: Bring The Color Back In The Sky Review

The Googabongas are back once more. Based on a super-popular arcade game also developed and created by Adrenaline Amusements, Blackout: Bring The Color Back In The Sky has flown on to mobile platforms. An exciting new remake for iOS, in this version, it is the player’s goal to help the Googabongas save their planet from an evil race of aliens called the Gooranos, who have blacked out the sun.

Each individually colored Googabonga has its own specific power, and using precision and strategy players must use the strengths of each of the five unique Googabongas in order to bring back light to each planet and show the Gooranos exactly who is boss!

The controls are simple; swipe Googabongas in the direction of the sun whilst attempting to avoid the various obstacles obstructing the path. Levels get noticeably more challenging as those pesky Gooranos try to block the flight path. This is where a steady aim comes in, as Googabongas must achieve two things. Firstly, they must dodge the Gooranos, whose objective is to counteract any good process by covering Googabongas in sticky black goo. Secondly, at the same time as evading flying obstacles, they must cover the whole of the sun’s surface in a satisfying explosion of color and showering gems. Collecting gems are crucial as they not only count towards the final score, but are also highly useful for exchanging towards a variety of special Googabongas, each one with unique supporting abilities.

Blackout: Bring The Color Back In The Sky is a cheerfully vibrant game, with impressive graphics and an accessible user interface. Gameplay is addictive and enjoyable, with extra additional challenges to overcome for every level. It seems quite limited in terms of length and replay value, and it’s a bit of a shame that there are only three different worlds available to play from. Hopefully this will change over time and more worlds will be added as the game gets slightly more popular. Coupled with this, the game limits the amount of lives playable in one sitting, so too many retries can hinder progress with additional lives only regenerated every thirty seconds to a minute. The option of in-app purchases is available, but unless the player has the goal of completing the game in one sitting this isn’t a necessary purchase at all. On the plus side, there are twenty levels to each world, and gameplay does get increasingly more challenging as one goes along.

Overall, Blackout: Bring The Color Back In The Sky offers many hours of amusement and entertainment and is a worthwhile addition to anybody’s iOS library.
