SoundBook Review

SoundBook is a very nice iPad app which introduces 60 sounds and photos to children, with a very easy interface.

I like this app, and I am sure babies and toddlers as well as older kids and their parents will enjoy this app as well. These are the sections included: animals, people, birds, and more. Each section has 15 related choices to make, such as 15 animals or birds and when one is tapped, the bottom half becomes a larger, beautiful photograph of this animal, person, or object.

The quality of this app is quite high as the photos used here are each excellent, rich with details and brilliant colors. I like how the thumbnail photos one chooses are different from the image that is used for the larger picture, adding to the richness of this app. The sound quality of these selections is also very high, sounding very clear and well-recorded.

I am especially impressed with the unusual and interesting content, including such animals as the hyena and sea lion, as well as a complete page of birds - something I find very educational, as one can compare and contrast the appearance and sounds of each of these feathered creatures. The people section is also great as it contains unique sounds I really appreciate, including the foot sounds of dancers, aquatic sounds of diving (including faint respirator-breathing noises), and the quiet sounds of skating and skiing. The “More” page is also very nice, including the atmospheric sounds of jungle, sea, forest and fire, plus other objects such as helicopter, tractor, and clock - all excellent choices children will have fun with.

Young children will enjoy exploring what this app has to offer. This would make a nice first app for a child as its interface is very simple as well very interesting to look at and listen to.
