Nagoya-based developer Ateam isn’t new to the world of mobile roleplaying games. Last year they released Unison League, in which you control a warrior as they venture across the dangerous land of Granvia. This year, they’ve got a new treat for fans of JRPGs - Valkyrie Connect.
Valkyrie Connect combines Norse mythology with anime tropes. You assemble a tough group of characters to pit against challenging enemies, levelling up and unlocking new warriors as you go. Originally only for the Japanese market, the game has now had its worldwide release, with versions in most major languages available.
Building on what made Unison League popular, Valkyrie Connect’s gameplay centres around co-op real-time battles. You have to take on increasingly tough opponents, using your chosen characters strategically. For the more casual experience, there’s a handy autoplay function – so you can let the grinding happen whilst sitting back and watching the diamonds roll in. But keep an eye on each of your character’s gauges – when a gauge is full, you can tap to trigger a character’s unique Action Skill. There’s also Limit Burst, which combines the power of your warriors into one effective strike.
So why the ‘connect’ in the title? Well that’s down to the online mode. You and two other groups of combatants (a total of 15 characters in the arena altogether) can band together to take on enemies. In the true spirit of co-operative gameplay, spells you cast on your characters will stretch to your allies’ fighters as well.
