Contract Killer: Zombies is a fun gallery-shooter with an intentionally drab coat of paint, but blasting the living dead always satisfies.

Brick Bow: Fast-Paced Match-Three Shooting Fun

Posted by Jennifer Allen on September 14th, 2011

Mixing shooting and match three fun? Sounds quirky doesn't it? That's exactly what Brick Bow is. Essentially it has the appearance of a classic like Arkanoid with arcade shooting goodness and the ever crucial Match Three side of things. It's an interesting idea but one that works pretty well.

Available in both iPhone and iPad varieties, Brick Bow is free for the iPhone and a mere $0.99 for the iPad version. Typical elements such as a series of power ups, combo bonuses and even boss battles are on offer. There's also the prospect of two bonus modes with Brick A Mole and Coin Wave greatly extending longevity. Plus there's the ever challenging Endless mode as well.

Brick Bow looks set to be an ideal game to play in short bursts and priced at nothing for the iPhone version, this is an ideal time to give it a shot.

Check out the gameplay video below to see it in action.

8-bit vs 16-bit is Ready to Settle the Debate

Posted by Rob Rich on July 28th, 2011
iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

The old argument of "Which one's better?" may not be familiar to a younger generation, but Old School gamers remember. We remember the schoolyard fights over Mario and Sonic or talking about how many bits a given console had as though it were currency. Anyone who didn't have enough bits was behind the times. A "loser," of a sort. An outcast among their peers due to their archaic game machine.

I think Vetasoft remembers, too, and that's why they've released 8-bit vs 16-bit on the App Store.

While the title is a tad misleading (the two measurements of bit depth aren't actually fighting each other), it's still quite the fun little arcade shooter. Horrible cosmic monsters trickle down the screen, as they tend to do, and players have to tap each of the little buggers before they reach the bottom. These beasties come in both 8-bit and 16-bit varieties, however, requiring players to quickly switch between both modes in order to take out the offending parties.

In practice it's a frantic, goofy, fun mess. The good kind of mess. There are no power-ups to confuse things and no special conditions to meet. No bosses, no mini-bosses... In fact, there aren't even any other kinds of enemies. It's just the player and increasingly tough waves of baddies made up of varying degrees of bits. It's the kind of simple that compliments iOS games quite well. Coupled with the kind of simple gameplay that keeps unsuspecting consumers from getting off the train at the correct stop or neglecting important things like bathing.

8-bit vs 16-bit is available right now in the App Store as both a free Lite version and a paid full version. I highly encourage everyone to take a look at the Lite version at the very least. Since it's free and all. It probably won't put the argument to rest for good, but it might get people to quiet down for a bit while they're busy playing it.

New Chillingo Releases: Color Bandits And Piñata Smash

Posted by Jennifer Allen on July 5th, 2011

iOS behemoth Chillingo is at it again, announcing the release of two more potentially very addictive games.

First up is Color Bandits, a title that offers colorful shooting throughout. Players must help restore the color of their home world after an evil steam punk boss has stolen the splendour of the area. Offering frantic side scrolling shooting action, Color Bandits is set to offer a great arcade style experience. It's out now priced at $0.99 for the iPhone/iPod Touch version with the HD version for the iPad weighing in at $1.99.

Second up is Piñata Smash, a game aimed more at the younger market with players needing to smash as many piñatas as possible as they appear on screen. Powerups and an upgrade system adds some variety. While 3 worlds with 12 levels in each provide plenty of enjoyment with this Universal game costing only $0.99. It looks set to be a great simple but addictive experience and it's out now.

Deer Hunter 3D from Glu

Posted by Jeff Scott on May 12th, 2009

The team over at Glu were kind enough to give us a little hands on time today with their latest title, Deer Hunter 3D. This is their first Atari license on the iPhone and it looks really impressive. You can definitely tell that a lot of care went into the production of this game.

For those of you not familiar with the game, the idea is that you are a game hunter looking for deer, moose, bears, and various other wildlife. The game starts out on the GPS screen looking for animal tracks. Once you find the tracks you can then zoom into a very lush and wonderfully rendered environment. From there, you aim your gun, zoom in with the scope, and try to bag a kill.

This is exactly space invaders as you remember. Many of us played the first time round (*koff*). The charm about it is that it is actually by the original folks who brought it to us in 1978. Would have been nice if they gave us the same prices! The game
