Top apps to help with summer road trips

Benjamin Franklin once famously said that the only certainties in life were death and taxes. During the summer, you can add another thing to that list: lots of people are going to be hitting the road for their vacations.

It wasn't too long ago that travel during the summer months meant breaking out the road atlas and being able to read road signs. Now, of course, all the help you used to need for navigation, lodging, and anything else you might need on a road trip is as close as your phone or tablet.

Expedia Updates App With New Interface, Info On Flights

Travel site Expedia just updated their iPhone app (iPad coming soon) to include over 200 airlines, better search and sorting functions, and a ton of images for hotels and destinations. The update also includes a mobile-exclusive deals section, with travel deals of up to 60% off.

Andrew Harper Releases Paris Companion App, Andrew Harper's Paris

Andrew Harper, the popular travel expert and reviewer, now has his own iOS companion app for travelers specifically taking a trip to Paris. Andrew Harper's Paris: A Personal Guide to the Best of the City, includes his opinions of hotels, dining, shopping, and touring.

The app includes over 350 favorites of Harper. There are 14 different of Harper's favorite hotels in the app ranging from "grand palace addresses to intimate Left Bank alternatives." Each hotel has information about the rooms, dining, and features within the hotels. There are 83 different restaurants with menu recommendations and contact information. And it includes over 100 shopping locations with maps, contact info, opening hours, and recommendations.

Andrew Harper's Paris is a free app. Any of you readers planning on taking a trip to Paris in the near future should give this one a look.
