Slime Rancher gets the mobile port treatment thanks to Playdigious

If I were ever ported to mobile, I would want Playdigious at the wheel. I would then want help to get out.

When it comes to mobile ports, Playdigious are masters. They brought us Potion Permit, Sea of Stars, and Besiege. Honorary mention to Feral and the Hitman ports. But back to Playdigious, they have done it again, with the release of cosy farmlike sim Slime Rancher on mobile.

First created by Monomi Park, check out their adorable logo, back in 2016, Slime Rancher has you don the mantle of Beatrix LeBeau. She has left Earth, who can blame her, to become a Rancher on a planet named Far Far Range. And what does she Ranch? If you guessed horses, then take another look at the game title, my friend.

You will build up quite the collection of Slimes in your travels, primarily through the liberal use of a vacuum cleaner. They get sucked up and shot out. I can see why Beatrix did not want to run a traditional farm now; I imagine the cows would clog up the vacuum in a big way.

Imagine the carnage of a Rush Mode run, the poor Slimes

There are three modes you can tackle Slime Racher in. Adventure is how it was meant to be played, with narrative beats and daily tasks to build up your career. Casual Mode is here in case you want to just kick back and play with your Slimes in a stress-free environment. And Rush Mode is the exact opposite. That vacuum is going to be steaming by the end of that.

Of course, Slime Rancher comes with all the mobile optimisations you would expect; this is not Playdigious’s first time around the block. Revamped UI, touch controls, controller support, the works, you get the idea. Let’s not insult the masters. It will be a charming, slightly slimy, sim that you can dip into on the train. What can be more relaxing? Plus, you get to fire Slimes out of a vacuum, and that makes me chuckle.

Slime Rancher is available to download from the App Store and Google Play, with an early 10% discount for a limited time.
