UFL releases on mobile to add competition back to the football gaming genre

If you want to play a football video game, you pretty much just have one option: EA Sports FC. eFootball was shocking, and FIFA hasn’t done much on its own. But you need competition, and that is what Strikerz Inc. is trying to bring with UFL, which is out now on mobile.

One thing UFL is not lacking is star power. Federico Valverde and Raphinha have lent their names to the project, with Raphinha acting as an in-game guide. Ronaldo is also closely linked with UFL, but honestly, that's less impressive. The man would advocate for anything that pays him enough.

You can play UFL in multiple ways, such as a PvE Career, my favourite of the football modes, your standard PvP, or even a 4v4 multiplayer. Here, 4 players will simultaneously control a footballer on the same team. I feel like there will be zero defence going on in these, whilst everyone is flopping around trying to score a spectacular bicycle kick goal.

Frequent live tournaments sound like they could be pretty fun

There will also be a host of live-op events, with the first being an Open Tournament. Players will put their squad together and go head-to-head in a bracket-based tournament. There will be plenty of rewards on offer, as well as progression challenges to complete for that checklist dopamine rush.

Arguably, one of the best features of UFL is the ability to create your own football club. You can collect footballers with different rarities and attributes, upgrade player cards, and sign coaches with team bonuses. Basically, Ultimate Team, but for a game that doesn’t have licensing with every team on the planet, I think this type of mode is invaluable. The FIFPRO collaboration at least gets player likeness, so let us create our own squads.
