It took quite a long time since launching on PC for the Total War franchise to make it to mobile, but when they did, it was immediately perfect.

Those can be some long campaigns, and the hop-in, hop-out nature of mobile gaming works wonders for this. It has been such a good match that Total War: Empire has received a mobile-exclusive expansion.

Dubbed A New World, one of the most impressive additions we got is a massive 44 new nations. Perhaps my favourite part of this is not one single faction, but the transformation of the Italian peninsula. Minor factions like Genoa, Savoy, and Venice are available, and if you capture the entire peninsula, you get a huge range of boosts, including more wealth generation and a 20% Research Rate increase.

Venice is even packing the Royal Fleet Gallery with the Focuses Force attribute, which grants up to a 33% deduction in upkeep if you stack a fleet with Royal Galleys. Basically, pick Venice is what we are saying. You can also choose from the Native American factions in the Grand Campaign for the first time.

Picking up A New World will also net you all the content from the desktop's Warpath DLC. It places you in 1783's North America and features five playable factions on a much more localised map. There is also a unique technology only available for Warpath, which includes gunpowder for a literal arms race.

Something new for the mobile is the Late Start Campaign, which kicks you straight to the mid-late period of a campaign for instant action.

A New World is available to purchase for $6.99, which is not a bad ask for 44 new factions. You will, of course, already need to own Total War: Empire, which is available from the App Store and Google Play for $19.99.
