Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls is terminating service at a pretty breakneck pace
I don’t think I have seen a shorter timeframe from announcement to closure
To put a toe out of the mobile world for one moment, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is set to release in two months and looks spectacular. You would think people would be devouring Castlevania content as a result. And yet, Konami has decided to shutter the mobile entry Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls.
If you've never played it, Grimoire of Souls was an old-school-inspired Castlevania adventure, with the side-scrolling and everything. It brought together characters from all across the Castlevania universe, including Maria Renard, Soma Cruz, and, of course, Trevor Belmont. Perhaps the most famous Belmont now, thanks to the Netflix series.
Unfortunately, it appears the Belmont’s Curse hype and appeal of a huge family affair is not enough to save Grimoire of Souls. In a rather short and to-the-point message, Konami announced the closure on its website. The message says, “We have decided to terminate the service on September 3”, and that is pretty much it.

Whilst I do like Konami, it has to be said that this particular closing message is a bit lacking. Even Square does it better, although they have had tons of practice. At least offer a reason why, even if it is the pithy, “We couldn’t deliver what you needed.” Konami just went, “Peace, we out.”
Regardless of the delivery, out they indeed are. Grimoire of Souls will fully terminate on September 3rd, just over two weeks away, which is a shockingly fast window. Not much of a graceful exit, as a boot through the door. Even more abrupt is the removal date from Apple Arcade: August 20th.
Some of you out there might have clocked that the date is tomorrow, so your opportunity to try this game out is over soon. You will need Apple Arcade, obviously, but luckily that does have a bunch of other genuinely good games to justify the rest of the month’s fee after Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls closes for good. Will it reawaken in the future like Dracula? One can but hope.
