Settlement Survival recently hit the App Store, and it seems fair to say that players are a little disappointed by it. There’s plenty of reasons to be less-than-thrilled with this city-building/management game, but luckily it isn’t the only option for getting this kind of experience on iOS.
See below for our top picks of games like Settlement Survival. They might not be as close to providing Banished-style gameplay as promised by Settlement Survival, but they’re also generally way more enjoyable.
Hi, in case you weren’t aware: JK Rowling is a bigot, and the latest game based on her Harry Potter series revolves around an antisemetic plot. Don’t play it. Don’t let you friends play it. It’s bad and supports a bad person!
With that out of the way, I did some thinking about what kinds of games might be good to play instead. Games that might have some similarities to certain aspects of Rowling’s wizarding world, but without the middling writing, racist undertones, and deplorable author. It wasn’t easy, but there are definitely some mobile titles that fit the bill. See below:
Diablo Immortal has now been out in the wild for some time now, and it’s basically more impressive as a game than I initially expected and more disappointing on the monetization front than anticipated. You can read a full review here, but the upshot is the game is a perfectly fine and highly polished way to do some Diablo-style grinding and the store—though shitty—can mostly be ignored.
If you don’t want to support or engage with free-to-play design and/or Activision Blizzard generally, first: I totally understand as there is no shortage of reasons for having these sentiments! And secondly: I have good news! There is a veritable bounty of games on the App Store that can deliver a very Diablo-like experience without a gross store or company attached to them. Check out our top picks below.
The latest entry in the mega-popular monster collecting and battling series is here in the form of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. In an effort to nakedly capitalize on everyone searching for “games like Pokémon” to recommend some great mobile games, here we are with a list of games fit that exact criteria.
Whether you want just another way to play with the same pocket monsters you know and love, or want something that just takes the underlying features of collecting and battling to different places, this list has you covered with rock solid titles along with reviews to inform your choice.
The Room has had a massive impact on the world of mobile gaming. Not only is it a brilliant adventure, it also shows how the touchscreen controls on your iPhone can be turned into something far more elegant and tactile than just a bunch of buttons. But what to do when you've finished playing through all four games in The Room saga?
That's why we've written this list. So that when it's time to put The Room down, you're not going to have to go cold turkey. The games on this list aren't just clones though, they build on the ideas of The Room and throw their own into the mix as well.
Obviously, if you've got your own suggestions, feel free to chuck them in the comments section at the bottom of the article. And if you want to read more of the awesome lists we write on a weekly basis, you can check them out by clicking right here.
Sometimes you want to play a game where you don't really have to do anything. Don't worry, we're not here to judge you, we're exactly the same. We love some action when we're in the right mood, but sometimes we want something a little more chill - something that lets us turn our brains off when we pick it up. Which is why we've written this list of our three favorite idle games for iOS.
These are the games that really got under our skin, be it because of the compulsion loops they generate, or the simple fact that they're a brilliant slice of distracting fun. Obviously, with this being a short list, there's a good chance that you're not going to see some of the games you'd pick on it. That's cool though, we'd still love to hear about them, so let us know what they are in the comments section at the bottom of the article.
Every time Friday rolls around here at 148Apps, we like to make sure you're au fait with the awesome digital gaming experiences that are going to land on the App Store over the upcoming seven days. Or, in less florid language, we tell you the top 5 games for iPhone and iPad that are coming out next week.
If you think we've missed anything out, then do let us know in the comments section at the bottom of the article. Or, alternatively, let us know which of the games you're most excited about.
It's Thursday, which means it's time for us to take a look at the very best games that are now available on the App Store. We've trawled the new releases and picked what we think are the top games for iPhone and iPad that came out over the last seven days. We've got shooters, puzzlers, a platformer that might make you punch strangers, and a classic tale of exploration and family ties.
The end of the week has rolled around again, which means it's time for us to look forward to the games you're going to be playing over the next seven days. We've got the return of a mobile gaming legend next week, as well as a couple of other really interesting looking experiences.
And if that wasn't enough we've stuck pre-order links in so you can have the game ready to download the second it lands on the App Store. We're good like that. So good that, if you think we've missed anything and you tell us in the comments, we almost certainly won't collapse in a ball and start weeping.
Overwatch is the game that proved Blizzard can essentially do anything it wants. It's a first-person shooter with co-op elements and a MOBA twist thrown in for good measure. And it's done brilliantly both in the world of real people, and in the make-believe land of eSports, where it's one of the biggest games. But, and it's a big but, you can't get it for mobile. That's not to say that there aren't alternatives though.
Alternatives like the ones we've put together in this list. There are some games you'd expect to be there, there are games you might expect to be there, and there's the standard 148Apps left-field, "what on earth is that doing there!?!" choice as well.
Obviously if you've got your own suggestions, feel free to stick them in the comments section at the bottom of the article. And if you're interested in list-based content, click here to check out all of the other lists we've made in recent time for your reading and perusal pleasure.

It's been a great week for releases (as you can see if you check out the games that are up for our game of the week award), and while next week isn't looking quite so shiny, there's still some impressive stuff waiting to be discovered.
And we've discovered it for you. You don't need to wander through the App Store scratching your head, because we've even included links where they're applicable so you can pre-order the game and then forget about it until you get a notification on your phone telling you that it's ready to download.
Friday is here again, and that can mean only one thing. Well, it actually means loads of things, but around these parts it means it's time to round-up all of the awesome iPhone and iPad games you're going to be playing in the coming seven days.
And we don't think we're putting too fine a point on it when we say that this is the best week ahead that we've had for a good long time. Seriously, look at all the amazing games that are coming out. It's going to be difficult to choose three, let alone choosing just one of them.
That's not to be mean to this week though. Click here and you'll be able to vote for your favourite release from this week's slate.
We've added pre-order links for all of the games here, so you can grab them now and not have to worry about remembering they exist in the future. Got your own suggestions? Then make sure you put them in the comments section at the bottom of the article. Let's all get excited together.
Playing on your own is cool, but sometimes you want to play with your friends. And if you're playing on an iPhone, that can often be a difficult process. So we thought we'd pick our favourite games on the App Store that you can play with your chums. They all need you to be in the same room, because real friends stick together.
We've got platformers, spaceship piloters, and at least one game that's going to make you laugh out loud. This isn't a definitive list, but these are the five games we've chosen because they represent different spectra of the same-place multiplayer genre.
If you've thrown your own iPhone gaming parties, and you've got some suggestions to share, then feel free to stick them in the comments section at the bottom of the article. And if you want to find out more about the games on iPhone, click here to check out the rest of our genre lists.

It's looking like there's going to be something for everyone again next week, which is always good. Plus there'll be the usual surprises sneaking up on us. We can't afford to pick up a crystal ball that deals with surprises though, so until we can you're just going to have to deal with what we've got here.
Every Friday here at 148Apps we like to do one thing. And that one thing is make sure that you've got a really good idea of what you're going to be playing come this time next week. That's right, it's time for us to round-up the best games that are set to hit the App Store in the next seven days.
We've included links so you can preorder the games from App Store, which means you won't even have to worry about remembering these games exist, since your phone will remind you when they're live on the App Store. That's pretty cool, right?
If you know any other games that are coming out next week, then feel free to share them in the comments. That way we'll all be able to get excited about them together, which is pretty awesome. Right then, on with the games.
