Pokémon GO Fest 2026 introduces us to Mewtwo's Mega Evolutions

Since Generation 1 of Pokémon, Mewtwo has been iconic. The first proper legendary, a standout in the Pokémon Movie, and then went on to have two Megas, pitting brain against brawn. And both look like forms of Freiza from Dragon Ball if you squint.

Anyway, you'd better choose your favorite, because they are both coming to Pokémon GO. 

Yes, as part of Pokémon Go Fest 2026, your very own Mewtwo can raise havoc as your favourite Mega. There is just one caveat: Mewtwo's Megas are remarkably powerful, and as such, cost more Mega Energy. You can find Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y Energy, unfortunately, separate resources, in Mega Mewtwo Super Mega Raids, debuting in Pokémon Go Fest 2026.

And there is a bonus. Each Mega Mewtwo caught from these raids will have at least one Mega Level unlocked and can be Mega Evolved without the initial energy cost. Pack your lucky rabbit foot, as you could also get a Level 2 or even 3. 

If you are hitting the City Experience in Tokyo, Chicago, or Copenhagen, you will get a Time Research with a guaranteed first Mega Level Mewtwo of X or Y, your choice. Also, any Mewtwo caught during in-person Go Fests by a ticket holder will have the Counter Fast Attack and Psystrike Charged Attack.

The word "Mega" has lost all meaning

Have you gotten sick of reading Mega yet? Well, too bad, there's more. Outside of the Mewtwo dastardly duo, there's a few more tune-ups happening to the Mega Evolution system. You will be able to use extra Mega Energy to level up your friends' Mega Level without having to wait for the daily progression cooldown.

Also, for Pokémon with multiple Megas, there will be separate tracks for each Evolution. Which leads us to Charizard. When the update hits, your Mega Level with carry on to both Mega Evolutions, so farm it up whilst you can. Additionally, you will also need separate Mega Energy, available in Mega Charizard X or Y Mega Raids. Any Charizard Mega energy you have in your pocket now, you will get that amount for both Megas after the split.

I think I have now used up my lifetime supply of the word “Mega."
