I can’t count how many times I have restarted games because I wanted to try another class

If you think of the MMOs that have lasted for decades, you would probably land on Runescape and WoW in a heartbeat. But don’t be deceived, for there is another. MU Online has been chugging along since 2001 and shouting out spin-offs along the way. Soon, their next adventure will launch, as MU: Dark Awakening releases in a few mere days.

Ok, it is more like a week, but hasn’t time been flying since the New Year? Specifically, MU: Dark Awakening will be available to enjoy on January 13th, and it sounds pretty interesting. You can take part in a cross-server battle with up to 100 players. I want a free-for-all PvP brawl with 100 players; it would be chaos.

Now, almost the entire reason I wanted to talk about this game is down to its class system. You have the standard array to choose from: Swordsman for up close stabbing, Archer for long-range stabbing, and Mage for elemental destruction. Usually, you are locked down to one of these, cursed to yearn after others after you made your choice.

We are an indecisive bunch.

That is not the case here, however. MU: Dark Awakening allows its players to freely switch between classes after they hit the required level. They are doing the Final Fantasy XIV approach, and it is a huge part of the reason that makes it my favourite MMORPG. Sorry MU Online. The choice of a class obviously has a massive impact on the experience; you should be able to switch.

You still have time to pre-register on the App Store and Google Play, and if you are at all interested, you really should. There is a plethora of rewards, including a mount, cosmetics, and a truck full of resources. There is also the possibility of an exclusive costume if the counter reaches 1.5 million.

It is over 1 million right now, so go help give it a nudge.
