Palworld Online is bringing the patent-busting fun of Pocketpair's smash hit to mobile this year
My plans to play anything other than Palworld today have been ruined by the sheer force of this hype
Since the 1.0 version launched, I have been playing quite a bit of Palworld. To the point where I am vastly overleveled for where I am in the world. Unfortunately, when playing, where I am in this world is my couch. Taking Palworld on the move is a bit of a faff, but not for much longer, thanks to the upcoming Palworld Online.
Developers and publishers Garena Online Private Limited announced they have the official licence from Pocketpair Inc to create an MMO outing for mobile. Which is a bit of a shame. It would have been hilarious if they did it without permission. Bring that patent infringement saga full circle.
Alas, we will have to settle for a completely legitimate spin-off of a frankly fantastic game. Woe is us. Palworld Online will feature a seamless open world, following a new narrative packed with a bunch of side stories. No doubt fetch quests. It is an MMO after all.
On that note, players will be able to band together with friends to build bases, have thrilling PvP matches, and take on menacing foes. Whilst the original does do multiplayer fairly well, I like the idea of making it more of a community game. However, having more than the current cap of 32 players on a server may lead to wild Pal shortages. It will be interesting to see how Garena plans for this.
Most importantly of all, Palworld Online will be optimised for mobile with optional one-tap controls and a touch-friendly interface. You can encounter a painful amount of menus and windows when building, but Garena are aiming to make that easier here.
Finally, the best news of all. Palworld Online is scheduled to arrive in 2026, which, if the calendar I have forgotten to put up all year doesn’t lie to me, is this year. We will certainly be following this one.
