Monster Hunter Now's Great Sword gets even greater in upcoming events

In the Monster Hunter series, I have always favoured the lighter weapons. When you have tiny dinosaurs bouncing everywhere, you need to keep up. Suffice to say, Monster Hunter Now's upcoming events aren’t for me. This is because they are celebrating that slow, hulking brute of a weapon, the Great Sword.

From August 11th to the 17th, hunters will be able to take on a suite of quests that will task you with slaying foes using specific gear. Of course, that will be a certain Great Sword and some complementary armour. Complete them and you will rack up the zenny and monster materials to expand your armoury.

During this event, you will also enjoy further rewards on certain hunt types. These are Hunt-a-thons, dimensionally linked monsters, and group hunts. You will also be tripping over Shining Eggs and Gleaming Eggs, which you can sell for even more money. If you aren’t a millionaire after this, you are playing it wrong.

If, for some unknown reason, you find yourself favouring the Great Sword after this, I recommend professional help. For those who insist on following this path, you will be able to experience a new style of swordsmanship with your big hunk of metal on a stick. You can switch between a combo-heavy style or one that focuses on counters.

Before you run out trying out this new style on just any old Great Sword, this new way to play is limited to certain weapons. Specifically, only weapons that can be forged or upgraded with materials gathered from Riftborne monsters. If only we were getting a new Riftborne monster to harvest.

Oh, would you look at that, Great Girros will be bounding onto the scene on the 11th. This snakey dog-hybrid will bring a whole new suite of Riftborne equipment to craft. To celebrate their arrival, you will need fewer materials to create and upgrade their weapons for a limited time.

Make sure to download Monster Hunter Now from the App Store or Google Play this weekend so you don’t miss out. Speaking of FOMO, the Assassin's Creed collaboration has launched in Reverse: 1999. Between the two, you have a lot of limited goodies to work on collecting to keep you busy for a bit.
