The Tim Burton-esque art really adds to the horror of being mauled by a Bearger at night

Oh look, the sky is blue, the grass is green, Playdigious is once again porting another brilliant game to mobile. It must be a day ending in y. It was only two weeks ago that they released Slime Rancher, but there's no rest for the wicked. And wicked this project is indeed, as Don’t Starve Together Pocket Edition is coming to mobile on July 21st.

If you haven’t played Don’t Starve Together, think Tim Burton meets Lord of the Flies. You choose a character, each with special abilities, and try to survive in a land where weird monsters try to munch you. Harvesting items and crafting are huge parts of this, as is dying. A lot. But at least you can bring a pal with you to watch you get flattened by Cthulhu's younger sibling. It's a harsh game. Or I am bad at it, one of the two.

That UI might be a bit of a problem

Now, a rare bit of criticism against a Playdigious port for me. And I say this knowing full well there's no better way to do it, but the UI looks quite cluttered. Especially the hot bar, I'm going to fat finger myself to death trying to pop a heal and actually whip out the One-man Band. And for those saying why is this item so close to the important items, I say it's never a bad time to start a jam. Unless a giant shadow is bearing down on you. Anyway, where was I?

Besides that little complaint, I think Playdigious have done a cracking job, and this will be an excellent game to have on the go. And I am getting the Little Nightmares feel from it; Six felt much more fragile when held literally in your hand, and the same will apply here. You will want to protect these even tinier little heroes from the horrors of the land. Like scarce resources, the true little nightmare.

Now, let's dip into some speculation. Multiplayer is very important for DST, obviously. It hasn’t been announced if the mobile version will be cross-play; let’s assume no. However, for $8.99, with a 10% discount for pre-ordering, I don’t think it's a bad price to pick it up again. If you can get used to the UI, I think mobile is the perfect place for Don’t Starve Together. It just fits. You can pre-order now on the App Store and Google Play.
