Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy launches on mobile with free giveaways
Rinoa is a poor substitute for Squall, yet I am excited all the same
Did you know that Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy has finally launched? I do. It is all I am thinking about when I don’t have my phone in my hand. We finally have a proper Dissisa, arena bralwer on our portable devices, and I can’t wait to keep playing.
Dissidia Duellum is set in modern-day and brings together a selection of your second-favourite characters from across the Final Fantasy world. And I say second-favorite because still no Squall! As well as seeing what your heroes would look like in updated clothes, Duellum thrusts you into real-time PvPvE battles.
You compete against an opposing team to try to beat a boss first. Whilst that is a departure from the usual Dissidia gameplay, you still have the small arenas and the groups of 3, so still very fun to play.
Also, a side story. Upon loading, you have to pick your favorite Final Fantasy game. It's a massive list, and it also includes games that Square has killed, like Record Keeper and The First Soldier. Feels like a bit of a slap in the face to me; “tell us your favourite game is dead."
Anyway.

A launch means only one thing: free stuff
To celebrate the launch, Square is hosting the Pre-Registration Celebration Login Bonus, rewarding those who log in for seven days. You will nab gifts such as 20 Draw Tickets, 3,000 MogPay Points, and five character tickets to save for Squall. No, I will never let it go. You can also head to TwiX and share a certain post to enter a raffle to win an Amazon Gift Card. You can also get 500 free MogPay Points by visiting the Dissidia Web Shop and linking your Square Enix Members account. It sounds good, but it also makes me a little weary that they are pushing the points already.
You can get another 500 for your first purchase, but you obviously need to spend money. It might be nothing, but too many mobile games have leaned too hard on microtransactions that I am suspicious when buying them is pushed at launch. Especially given how trigger-happy Square gets with closures.
Hopefully, I am wrong, but I will be watching until they give me Squall, then I will be delightfully distracted.
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
