Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy reveals six extra characters ahead of next week’s launch
While the majority of these characters are the obvious choice, one or two did surprise me
It is an exciting week for Square mobile fans. Dragon Quest Smash/Grow opened its pre-registrations yesterday, and today, we are treated to a launch trailer for Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy. This trailer shows off some gameplay footage, but more importantly, six new heroes.
Whilst it is exciting to see a bit more gameplay, it doesn’t show anything we haven’t already seen. It's an arena fighter, and you compete against another team to beat a boss. I am more excited by the new roster, but I still do not forgive Square Enix for the heartbreaking omission of Squall.
So, let’s take a look at our newly announced heroes; some expected, and some not. First, the obvious. Final Fantasy 3 has sent the Onion Knight, 2 sees Firion enter the fray, and 12 gives us Balthier. Nothing wrong with any of these heroes; they are simply just the ones we expect.

The inclusion of Final Fantasy 16 is obvious but still shocked me
However, the other three did surprise me. Clive Rosfield from 16 shouldn’t have shocked me, but for some reason, I wasn’t expecting 16 to show up. I am glad they did, however, as I love Ben Starr and hope he returns to voice them. Rikku showing up from 10 instead of Tidus or Yuna is a fantastic development. I loved her and Yuffie as the excitable Ninja/Rogue types. Finally, 11 is showing up with Iroha, which is a bit of a shock. She has shown up in crossovers before, such as in the Final Fantasy 14 quests, but Shantotto usually represents 11. I am enjoying these unusual choices in characters that Square is making, but I won’t forgive them for picking Gaia from 14. I complained enough last time, but come on! She's not even mandatory to the story!
You can pre-register for Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy on Google Play and the App Store ahead of next week's launch date. The trailer sets this as March 24th; however, a bit of behind-the-scenes, the press email says March 23rd.
Possibly because of the time difference, but either way, very soon.
