Sword of Justice takes us all to 12th-century China as the MMORPG launches on mobile
The gameplay might cost nothing, but the AI costs could be massive
If you have been following the news in the gaming realm, you will see that NetEase has been throwing a lot of its studios into the fire. I believe they just reached the hat trick. Luckily for mobile gaming fans, that hasn’t affected the launch of MMORPG Sword of Justice, which is available now.
It is set in 12th-century China, which sadly means the extensive knowledge I have gained about Chinese history from Dynasty Warriors is of absolutely no help here. You will travel across bustling cities and sprawling landscapes as you build your own legacy, without spending a penny.
You see, despite NetEase’s seeming campaign to save money by destroying studios, this is a no-pay-to-win-MMO. So, you can follow the Converging Paths system to create your own build for absolutely nothing. Which I think we can all agree is a very good thing. Unfortunately, it seems there is a lot more bad here.

I am, of course, referring to the heavy use of AI in Sword of Justice.
NPCs run on an AI engine that allows them to remember you and your past encounters, and respond with a more customised response. This sounds great, and will no doubt be more interesting than hearing “I took an arrow to the knee” for the 100th time, but it is hard to ignore the damage AI does.
There is also the AI Film Crew Mode, which allows you to generate videos and create your own scenes. Again, it sounds great, but the cost of AI is so high in terms of electricity and taking jobs; all those points you have heard before. Sure, it might make a more interesting game, and it will be great if you can get past that, but I doubt I could.
Either way, you can download Sword of Justice from the App Store and Google Play.
