Pokémon GO will unleash its new leveling system later this week with special rewards to achieve
Trainer level 80 is here.
Let us start with the question posed by the featured image provided by Pokémon GO for its latest update: Would you climb a mountain for a Pokéstop? I think I would say “no thanks” and just go down the road to the next nearest. Anyway, that's besides the point, or is it? Because there is a new peak for Trainer levels coming October 15th.
It was teased a while back, and now it is here.
Soon, we will be able to reach Trainer level 80. And by we, I mean not me, I don’t think I have cracked level 30 yet. By going through these new levels, you will be able to get very handy goodies, including increased storage for Pokémon, Items, Gifts, and Postcards. The best thing about that is more Pokéballs.
So, how does it work? Well, nobody will lose any levels with the update. If you are over level 23, you will gain at least one, and the XP needed for your next one may change. In addition, Level-Up Research tasks through levels 41 to 50 will be removed, with new ones being added for 71 to 80. Finally, you will retroactively receive all new avatar and storage-related rewards for all previous levels.

Indeed, I said avatar, because we are getting some fancy new threads. Although, do note the level 50 Jacket will be unobtainable if you haven’t already received it. Instead, you can receive the likes of the Poke Ball Cap at level 25, the Great Ball Cap at level 40, and the Ultra Ball Cap at level 55. Rather amusing, they ran out of Pokemon-themed ideas at Level 71, cause then you start getting the likes of the level 71 Shoes, or level 75 Pants.
You will also have a higher chance to become Lucky Friends with a trainer you have a Friendship level of Best Friends with after level 70.
Interestingly, there is a note saying that “this level cap increase only affects Trainer level and not Pokémon." So it seems that perhaps the CP cap won’t rise past trainer level 50. Something to bear in mind.
On the plus side, logging in every day will get you a Daily Adventure Egg. Hatching this gets you a Pokémon and 10,000 XP. You can only hold and incubate one at a time; however, there are two things that help alleviate this. It has its own Incubator, and the egg doesn’t count towards your current storage. Also, it hatches after 1km, so damn near free XP.
Pokémon GO is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
