Pokémon Go celebrates the impending release of Legends: Z-A with a very limited-time event
Time for a catch-a-thon!
It is hard to believe it is already October. Where has the time gone? Thankfully, this accelerated timeline means that we are within touching distance of Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s October 16th release date. To celebrate, Pokémon Go is hosting an event centred around the three starter Pokémon.
Just a side note: what are they doing with this starter selection? Chikorita, Totodile, and Tepig. It is two from the same generation, which shouldn’t be happening. It is a point that has no doubt been made hundreds of times, but it really bothers me. It isn’t even two from Kalos, which would at least make some kind of sense. Anyway.
The Pokémon Legends: Z-A Celebration Event will be held between October 16th and 20th, which isn’t an awful lot of time, so make sure you make the most of it. To celebrate the return of Mega Evolutions, woo Mega Lucario, Mega Raids will be appearing mega frequently, which I am sure we can agree is mega cool.

We will also be receiving free timed research centred on this cursed starter-trio. It will earn you XP, Candy, a Poffin, and, depending on the choice you make in the branching tasks, an encounter with a Chikorita, Totodile, or Tepig with a seasonal background. The first one you choose will also have an increased chance to be attracted to Daily Adventure Incense, which is handy for this next part: featured attacks.
Yes, load up on your PokéBalls for the customary event catch-a-thon. Evolving your partner into their third form in this time frame will result in a special Charged Attack. Meganium will know Frenzy Plant, Feraligatr will learn Hydro Cannon, and Emboar will have Blast Burn. You can also skip the candy grind and use a Charged TM instead.
Finally, some fashion. There will be a set of Lumiose City Outfits released in the Store for you to pick up. The clothes can be fitted or relaxed, and you have a choice between a black or white hat, and red or blue shoes. Alternatively, get them all, because they are completely free,
Pokémon Go is available from the App Store or Google Play.
