Building an app, in the eyes of most people, would be a ridiculous endeavor that would take all sorts of time to accomplish. So many things would have to be done before even starting, including learning HTML5, figuring out how to do graphics (if you need graphics), and going through the crucible of submitting it to Apple.

While Developer Toy can't help you with the high end graphics or the Apple submission part, it does help you out with the rest of the daunting app creation experience. According to the website (which seems to be a rough English translation), the app is easy enough for a 12 year old to pick up and start using.

Judging by the YouTube video (below), the app is very simple to use, letting you create just about any kind of category or subcategory with just a few clicks. Most of the app seems to function like a database, creating menus, sub-menus, and text that extends from the menus. It doesn't look like it can make any sort of graphics other than simple buttons, but it does allow you to mess with site fonts, design elements, basic layouts, pictures, and even video.

The resulting apps are mockups that are primarily text based... but are definitely functional. If you are ambitious, you can also export the resulting code to X-Code via email or WiFi/iTunes to do some computer based modifications. All processes, including the X-Code conversion is done in-app, so you don't have to have an active network connection to start building.

Regardless of whether you are a new developer who wants to get some developer experience or a seasoned vet who wants to bypass some tedious menu building, Developer Toy could be an extremely useful tool. I'm not sure if the next #1 app will come directly from Developer Toy, but it is a pretty neat little app that will easily have you on your way to app submission.
