For a game all about loud, crazy characters and louder explosions, they sure did this quietly

It appears that April is not yet out of surprises. Like a bolt from the blue, Zynga has snuck Borderlands Mobile out. Well, sort of. Right now, it is only in the United States and on Apple. Plus, Borderlands Mobile might not even be the future name, and the features are reportedly pretty bare.

Let’s break down what we know.

Is Borderlands on mobile?

Yes! And according to a short interview that a Zynga representative gave to Gematsu, it seems that NaturalMotion will be developing this. They also confirm that this current “release” is only a limited-time test to gather feedback via a survey. I just hope this won’t be another great game locked to Apple.

At the time of typing, this does appear to be a regional test only in the United States. Presumably because they are the country that most accurately represents the Borderlands world. If they get the good games, I get to make fun of them out of envy. I really enjoy those games.

Having said that, NaturalMotion is a studio based in the UK, traitors. They are also a studio that doesn’t seem to have prior experience in this area. Unless you count Star Wars: Hunters, which, given that it shut down after about a year, I imagine they wouldn’t want you to. It is not a CV that fills me with much hope.

Right now, our main source of information is the App Store page. From what we can see, it looks like this will be a proper Borderlands experience. Much like Division Ressurgence is The Division, just shrunk down for fast, mobile matches, it would seem.

We also appear to be getting new characters, with the Summoner currently seeming to be the only class available in the test. Sadly, that means I might not be able to take Amon, the Viking and my Borderlands love, around with me in my pocket. There will still, of course, be loot, flashing skills, and big bosses across modes such as the Campaign, Tower of Terror, and Circle of Slaughter.

If you are in the United States and have an Apple device, you can try out Borderlands Mobile for a limited time.
