Old School Runescape adds a new skill for the first time in history
Nothing gets the player base more motivated than something shiny.
Over a decade ago, specifically 2013, Jagex rekindled all of our childhoods with the release of Old School Runescape. It was the return of the Runescape we all knew from when we were children, and since launch, it has been blissfully untouched, until now. It is hoist the anchor, as Sailing comes to Old School Runescape.
It might not sound like a big deal, nostalgic game adds a feature that the main one has, but this is a milestone. Sailing marks the first time that a skill has been added to OS Runescape. This is because the player base has to vote on whenever something substantial gets added, which is quite a nice way to run a game that trades on nostalgia, really.
You will be able to see classic Gielinor from a whole new perspective as you hit the oceans, starting out at Port Sarim, before heading to Pandemonium to begin your high seas adventure. If you are lucky, your adventures will lead you to some legendary pirate treasure, although, as One Piece teaches us, that could be one heck of a long journey.

With the way people play nowadays, this specific paragraph may already be outdated, but let’s soldier on anyway! A new skill can only mean one thing for the most dedicated players: a race to level 99. Everyone shall be clambering over one another in a bid to become OS Runescape's own Blackbeard, and there is a lot on the line.
To be fair, it is a cosmetic that's on the line, but as we all know, fashion is the true endgame. The first to max out Sailing will receive an exclusive Sailing Skill Cape, as designed by community member Gentle Tractor, perhaps the worst piece of farming equipment you could buy. Nothing gets the player base more motivated than something shiny.
Old School Runescape is available from the App Store and Google Play.
