Project Mugen gets kicked back into the limelight as NetEase reveals a new name change

There are a couple of big names in the mobile sphere that when you hear them mentioned, you immediately perk an ear to learn more. One such situation was back at Gamescom 2023 when NetEase Games burst onto the stage and showed off a mind-blowing trailer for the frustratingly vague titled Project Mugen.

Now, finally, we have received some further news that puts a rocket under this whole situation, along with a new name; Ananta. The reveal came in the form of a trailer, showing a character struggling to come up with a new codename for the title as the city falls apart in the background.

It lasts less than a minute and doesn’t show much beyond this new title, but it is a step in the right direction after a long silence with not many updates. The original reveal trailer offered a ton more information, with its showcase of the action gameplay, and the excellent traversal that has you flying through the city like Spiderman.

Ananta, as it is called, does look like it could be a hard deal. Leaning toward the anime art style, which is always popular, could definitely prove integral to delivering a stylish and action-packed title. My only concern is the studio handling the project; Naked Rain.

You may be thinking well I haven’t heard any controversy or any terrible games from this lot. That is because they are new, and handing a big project to a team that may not have gelled together before can be considered risky. Also, they are a subsidiary of ThuderFire, which is a subsidiary of NetEase Games. Feels like passing the buck down the ladder too many rungs.

We won’t have long to wait until I eat my own words though, as NetEase has teased a further news dump coming December 5th. We will keep our eyes open for this, and in the meantime, you can pre-register from Ananta on the official website.
