Confession; I am not exactly what you would call the sharpest tool in the shed. I can solve the odd RPG puzzle of spinning gears or linking nodes, but actual Puzzle genre titles will defeat me. This is why Dookos Games' upcoming game fills me with fear; the competitive jigsaw puzzle game Jigsaw USA.

You might have noticed that key word there; competitive. Do you play in real-time against a player in a race to complete the puzzle? No. It is a clock, which I would argue is so much worse. It will be there is a corner ticking away laughing at you as you try to slot that sky blue piece in the grass in blind panic.

Each puzzle has its own leaderboard, and the faster you complete it, the higher you rank. I only hope you can turn off that timer so you can enjoy some casual puzzling. I imagine It would be hard to sit back and just enjoy some Jigsaw fun if you see that damnable timepiece tick over ten minutes.

On the positive side though, Jigsaw USA is a title you can enjoy in relative comfort. It offers zero ads, no in-game purchases, as well as offline play. This obviously means you can play it perfectly if you are at home, and equally easily if you somehow find yourself at the bottom of the ocean. Although in that case you probably have more pressing issues.

An interesting facet of Jigsaw USA is the fact you will learn whilst you play. I have always maintained that most of my knowledge comes from video games. As you complete the puzzle you will be granted little tidbits of American lore, from leaders to events to national treasures. It's Hamilton but with much less singing and a lot more trying to find corner pieces.

Jigsaw USA is now available to pre-order from Google Play.
