It is a good time to be a puzzle fan, as indie developer Rogueside has announced an upcoming sequel for its popular 2020 hidden object game, Hidden Through Time. Called Hidden Through Time 2: Myths and Magic, there is no solid release date, however, it is confirmed that it will be coming later in 2023.

Rogueside has a lot of plans in store for this sequel, expanding on the concepts and simplicity of the original with the aim of creating a deeper and more impressive challenge for new and returning players alike. Interestingly, Rogueside also specific that community wish list requests have been considered for the sequel, and player-led development is always a nice thing to hear. Hidden Through Time 2 will also include improved visuals and sound in relation to its predecessor, but of course will keep its colourful, Where Waldo-inspired art style. Some new features for players to engage with include more customization options, improved ambience to give the levels a more alive feeling, and improved intractability. What’s more, there are Editors for both structures and characters to allow players to build their own little world for the game.

The ability to create your own world is a big focus for Rogueside, with Marketing Manager Jacobein Van den Bergh saying: “The idea for Hidden Through Time originated from those “Where’s Waldo” books everyone had back when they were young.”

“The key difference between us and competitors is the addition of a map editor, enabling the community to create and share their own maps, as well as play other’s creations. One of the big focuses for the sequel is customisation. ”

Whilst there is the rather cynical argument that player editors like this are just a way for developers to have other people do the work to keep their game alive, it is nonetheless a fantastic tool for those who want to express themselves creatively. And let’s not forget, you can still enjoy the original levels from the minds that made Hidden Through Time so beloved.

Make sure you check out the original Hidden Through Time on the App Store and Google Play to get yourself excited for the upcoming sequel.
