Delve into mythology of the Philipines with SINAG Fighting Game

Mythology is an immensely fascinating topic, but most games will often just focus on Norse, Greek, Rome and the like, with the Philippines not often getting the spotlight, until now. Philippine-based indie devs Ranida Games have announced the pre-registration for the upcoming SINAG Fighting Game.

In their 1v1 fighting game, Ranida is aiming to combine the rich mythology of the Philippines with some hopefully engaging gameplay mechanics. Players will be able to dive deep into this mythological immersion, and learn about rich culture through the best means; video games. Who didn’t learn most of the world's mythology through gaming? SINAG, presumably named after the Tagalog word for sun ray, is one of the grant awardees of The Cultural Center of the Philippines' inaugural Computer Games Grants Program, quite a wordy way to say they have been tasked with helping conserve the country's cultural legacy, primarily folktales and myths. A worthy objective, and one that will make a fascinating game.

Upon launch, there will be eight playable characters to use across eight background stages, with full touch and controller support. There will be no swipe or cooldown-dependent moves, a fully old-school one-on-one brawler. Fighting will require skill, and the gameplay is quite combo-heavy, so you will need to time your attacks well and exploit openings to whip out your most damaging moves.

Most characters are based on those from Philippine mythology. Anna Luna comes from the White Lady, a female ghost often linked to tragic love stories, or Bathala, an incarnation of the original Supreme Being. If you like your vampires who can separate their torsos from their legs, you have some niche tastes, but Mara’t Clara will have you covered, inspired by the Manananggal. For those who want to stay vaguely human, Bugan and Tala are warriors based on the Igorot people, or you can play as Juan, the Filipino everyman.
