ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition brings the dino-taming survival hit to your handheld devices

If the idea of surviving in a prehistoric world and befriending a whole host of dinosaurs and other such creatures doesn’t sound like a good time, we can’t be friends. For everyone who is in the right and loves this idea; good news! ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition has launched for thousands of hours of dino-joy.

In the original ARK Island mode, you wake up on a mysterious island freezing, starving, and with absolutely nothing to your name. You must scavenge for supplies, build tools, hunt for food, and generally make a home for yourself, all with vicious dinosaurs circling you. Luckily, they can be befriended, ridden, and fought alongside, if you are skilled enough to tame them.

As you might have noticed from the name, this is the Ultimate Edition. That means you can get the full Survival Evolved experience, plus all the expansion packs. This includes Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, Genesis Parts 1 and 2, plus the fan-favourite Ragnarok community-created map. The full dinosaur survival experience on the go, what else do you need?

Note, “can” get the full experience. Unfortunately, Grove Street Games has gone down the monetisation route, with the Ark Pass Subscription. You will have access to all the current and future expansions for $4.99 a month, or $49.99 per year. That also gets you monthly bonuses, such as extra XP, free Keys, and the God Console.

For those who prefer to own instead of rent, and let’s be real that’s most of us, you can opt to instead purchase these expansions. Drop a few quid on the Scorched Earth pack and you can trek across deserts, and encounter fantastical dragons waiting to ally with or eat you. Or, head into the future with Aberration, explore a malfunctioning ARK, and discover what fate lies in store. Provided you can survive the Nameless, twist humanoids infused with the Elements.
