Being a Brit, I can confidently say we don’t have much to be proud of in this country; it's falling apart. So when there is something good, I like to sing its praises. I will champion Jaguar, I will champion our awful sports teams, and I will go on about how much I like game studio Chucklefish.

As well as developing Starbound and Wargroove, Chucklefish has published some gems, including Stardew Valley, for a while. Another game they published was Inmost by Hidden Layer Games, first released in 2019. It is a platformer, and it is coming to Android soon.

It is a title that follows three distinct characters: a young woman, an elderly man, and a knight. One of those really stands out, don’t they? You will have to master each of their skill sets to solve puzzles and vanquish foes. Sometimes with weapons, and sometimes by going all Scooby Doo and luring them into traps.

Cartoon analogy aside, Inmost is a serious game that handles some deep topics. As such, it is a dark, haunted land, devoid of all Scooby Snacks. You can rattle through the story in around 3 to 5 hours, depending on whether you stop to find every collectible and hidden passage. In fact, you are encouraged to play through it in one sitting for the full impact.

Something I do really like about Inmost is the look. If you have played Starbound, slap a spooky filter on that, and you're almost there. But even though it is pixel style, I think it has beauty to it. And the lighting works incredibly well to complement the foreboding, atmospheric nature of the game.

A lot of that is thanks to designer Alexey Testov. If you pop over to their TwiX page, boo hiss, I know, you will see a lot of other pretty computer art they have created. Fairly talented. But I have always preferred simplicity in design myself; pixel style is ageless.

The nights are getting long, and it is almost Halloween, so now is the perfect time to download Inmost from Google Play. By which I mean, October 26th will be the perfect night to, because that’s when it releases. Download Inmost, lock the doors, close the curtains, and eat all the Halloween candy you brought for trick-or-treaters.
