Fateless Games raises a further $8 million, showing community desire for cross-platform gaming

We recently learned that Fateless Games, a fairly small studio, raised $8 million in their second round of community fundraising. Adding this to what they originally raised, they now have $14 million, primarily off the back of Godforge, the cross-platform MMORPG that just entered Alpha Testing ahead of a proposed launch in Q1 2026.

Now, I am not trying to take anything away from Godforges' concept; it has a Norse-themed character I am 100% in. But, I don’t think that is the whole reason for this crowdsourcing success. I think it speaks to a bigger desire in the community; we are sick of exclusivity.

So many games, including Godforge, are cross-platform, and yet we still have to suffer through arbitrarily locked titles. Obviously, the most high-profile examples of this are consoles, but I would argue it is a rapidly growing concern in mobile, too. How many big games are Apple-only?

I don’t know about you, but I would give anything to carry Leon Kennedy around in my pocket on my Android. But instead, we need to pay a ridiculous amount of money for an iPhone to enjoy Resident Evil on the go. Or many of the gems on the Apple Arcade. Or my beloved Warframe!

There are, of course, reasons for this on mobile; there are fewer iPhone models, so it is much easier to optimise. But if one studio can raise $14 million for development, surely it is worth looking into more cross-platform technology, at least between Android and iOS?

Consumers should not need to carry around two expensive phones just to indulge in their hobby, on top of purchasing the actual title itself. At the end of the day, it is all about finances, whether that be saving development costs or exclusivity deals. But I think $18 million from the gaming community is a strong argument in favour of less exclusivity.
