Forget the old stereotypes—professional gaming isn't just a pastime anymore. According to a new global study from Logitech G, esports is officially entering a new era, marked by soaring career aspirations and mainstream cultural acceptance.

Logitech G surveyed a whopping 18,000 people across 12 countries, and the results confirm what many gamers already knew: esports is a serious business.
The study’s most eye-opening finding? A significant chunk of the global population is dreaming of the big leagues. 1 in 10 (8%) of people globally would choose to become a professional gamer if they could restart their career. That puts it ahead of jobs like politician (6%), recruiter (6%), and professional racer (5%). Gen Z is leading the charge, with 15% citing pro gaming among their top fantasy career ambitions. This compares to 10% of Millennials, 7% of Gen X, and just 3% of Boomers.

The Legitimacy is Real

The perception of gaming as a credible career path is rapidly shifting. More than half (54%) of people worldwide now say esports is a legitimate professional path.
This acceptance jumps significantly among the younger, gaming-native generations: 67% of Gen Z and 60% of Millennials agree. While some European nations remain skeptical, markets like Brazil (87%), South Korea (82%), China (79%), and Switzerland (70%) are overwhelmingly supportive.

The $7.5 Billion Industry

The numbers speak for themselves. The global esports audience hit 611 million in 2024 and is projected to reach 641 million by the end of 2025. The industry itself is valued at $2.1 billion, with forecasts predicting a massive leap to $7.5 billion by 2030, fueled largely by sponsorship revenue.
“Esports has evolved into a global cultural force, creating meaningful pathways into technology, creativity, and high-performance careers. Our research shows clear and growing recognition of competitive gaming as a legitimate profession," said Derek Perez, Head of Gaming Communications at Logitech G

To meet the demands of this increasingly competitive landscape, Logitech G is doubling down on its commitment to high-performance gear. The new PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE mouse is built for pro-level responsiveness, introducing the breakthrough Haptic Inductive Trigger System (HITS) for ultra-fast, customizable actuation and precise haptic feedback. Pairing reduced click latency with the advanced HERO 2 sensor, it delivers the speed and accuracy the next generation of esports champions will rely on.
With career aspirations at an all-time high and cultural acceptance surging, the golden age of competitive gaming is officially here.
