Better than nothing, I guess.

Genshin Impact features a vast array of characters and companions that you encounter throughout your journey. Your first Mondstadt friend would be Amber, and if you follow the story, Xiangling would be your first Liyue companion, the one who taught you how to reach Liyue from Mondstadt.

Ever since its release in version 1.0, the fanbase has been asking the developer for a feature where these characters roam around the world, adding liveliness to the scene. For example, I would love to see Amber just walking around in the wild, Venti playing music by the Starsnatch Cliff, or Xiao brooding at the Wangshu Inn. Or imagine coming across Childe all over Teyvat, living up to his name as Mr. Worldwide.

Of course, this feature is not revolutionary, given that HoYoverse did it for their other games, like Zenless Zone Zero. So it's really a mystery why they didn't implement this feature in Genshin, or if they even ever considered it.

The Travelers' Tales is as far as seeing companions in the world goes, for now

While roaming friends are apparently too much to ask, Genshin did add the Travelers' Tales feature back in version 5.4. It's not exactly what the players ask for, but we can at least see our companions in the world, and get the chance to listen to what they're up to.

There's a limited number of times you can do this daily, but catching up with friends is incentivized with Primogem rewards. So much for true friendship!

In version Luna V, 12 new companions will be available to greet all over Teyvat: Yoimiya, Kuki Shinobu, Wriothesley, Gaming, Clorinde, Emilie, Kachina, Durin, Illuga, Zibai, Varka, and Nicole. Yes, that's right, Nicole.

Is this foreshadowing that Nicole's release is on the horizon? Maybe.

But don't forget that there are two other characters in the most recent silhouette teaser, so Nicole may be released on version 6.6 instead of 6.5.
