The Final Fantasy franchise has a long and storied history, full of all sorts of spin-offs. One of the more fun ones is the Dissidia titles, which brings characters from all the series together for arena battles.

Square Enix had one of these on mobile, Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omina, before they set it on fire last year. Now they are trying again, with the announcement of Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy.

As usual in the Dissidia games, it is a 3v3 team boss battle, but that is where the familiar aspects stop. Two teams and roaming monsters will clash and compete to see who can destroy the boss faster. An interesting twist, but not the most interesting thing about Duellum.

This game is set in modern-day Tokyo, featuring the likes of Final Fantasy 9's Zidane and Final Fantasy 8's Rinoa sporting current-day garbs and using mobiles. The world was started when a giant crystal appeared in the city, but as quickly as it arrived, it faded into the background of everyday life.

Until one day, that is.

The crystal started oozing a menacing energy, from which monsters sprang forth, terrorising humanity. Thus did our heroes arrive, taking the fight to these foes, and then disappearing as soon as the threat was over. Thanks to these disappearing acts of Batman-esque proportions and their tendency to conceal their identities in battle, people started labeling these figures “Ghosts."

The story is brought to life with a fully Japanese-voiced main story, with short stories digging into the daily lives of our hero. Of which Squall better be one, Square. It is scheduled to launch next year; however, if you can’t wait that long, an Android Closed Beta Test will take place between November 6th and November 14th. Finally, some exclusivity for Android.

To celebrate the tests, on November 6th, there will be a raffle held on the Duellum TwiX and Facebook accounts, with Amazon Gift Cards up for grabs. Of course, the real prize would be entry into the beta, so make sure to sign up now.
