Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequel are free to download on mobile

In our little worlds of gaming, there are a few legends that everyone knows, even if they do not partake in our electrical pastime. I am talking about the likes of Mario, Cloud Strife, and perhaps one of the best, Sonic the Hedgehog. Despite a somewhat rocky history of games, the blue speedstar is still an icon. 

Possibly known more nowadays for the smash hit movies, which did not use the voice of Roger Craig Smith, the heathens, Sonic has featured in dozens of games. The less said about some, the better. But the original Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 from Sega are standouts.

And for a short time, you can get them for free.

The only trick is that you have to act fast. This is because support for the Sega Forever mobile ports of these two classics will soon cease. Whilst this doesn’t necessarily mean they will be delisted, and the in-game pop-up does say you will still be able to play offline, it is often the case that they will be wiped from the store.

Good news, though: you can download both of them for free right now. You can find Sonic the Hedgehog on the App Store and Google Play, as well as Sonic the Hedgehog 2, currently available for Apple and Android. Being free, they do contain adverts; however, a recent update seems to have removed them from Apple. Having just downloaded them myself, they are currently still on Android, though. So, fingers crossed.

Honestly, this is kind of a no-brainer. They are classics for a reason, so even if you won’t play them right now, grab them for free when they are around. Everyone loves Sonic. He is my navigation voice on Waze, and it always makes me smile.
