Snowbreak: Containment Zone goes into Maintenance mode following a postal-flavored backlash
There is definitely a line that you shouldn’t cross in design, but I don’t think Seesun Games did
After what we shall delicately refer to as a few rough months, Snowbreak: Containment Zone has gone offline and entered into an indefinite maintenance mode. But why all the hubbub? Well, it appears that developers tried to “anime” too close to the sun, and wound up on the wrong side of the censors.
By “anime," I am of course referring to the more fan-service elements that come with these types of games. If you see that art-style, you know you are going to have to put up with a skimpy outfit or two. It happens all the time with games like Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, Brown Dust 2, and even HoYo has a few that would raise an eyebrow in stricter households.
This is not the first time that Snowbreak: Containment Zone has had to reel it in, however. Back in 2024, the developers removed a few of the more problematic outfits from some of the characters. No full reason was given, but the general consensus is that it was due to the tightening of some censorship rules in mainland China.

So, if every anime game does this in some form or another, which is Seesun Games getting it so hard in the neck this week? Well, they decided to do a collaboration with China Post, the national postal service of China. This was going to result in some themed stamps and letters showing off some of the female characters.
As you might guess, with the backlash, this did not go over too well. Chinese forums were furious that a state-affiliated company would dare to work with a game that had people in revealing outfits. Like a large portion of games already do. The lesson to learn here is that having these types of designs is fine, but don’t try to team up with a government company.
For now, there is no news when, or possibly if, Snowbreak: Containment Zone will return. The official post on TwiX does mention Compensation rewards for the maintenance, so it seems that Seesun is planning to return from this. Which hopefully, they do.
If they don’t, this could start a worrying ripple effect through games with similar artstyles. I am not a big fan of those types of outfits myself, but I would prefer not to see creativity be stifled or censored on a large scale.
Fingers crossed this blows over.
