Pudgy Party releases in a market that is already fit to burst with clones
I love penguins. They are my second favourite animal after wolves, because I am at heart a basic so-and-so. You would think, then, that the soft launch of Pudgy Party would make my heart swell. Adorable chaos abounds; it sounds perfect. But here is the thing: we have already done that so many times.
We are up to our eyes in this battle royale party games at this point. Stumble Guys is probably the biggest one on mobile, and we have Sonic Rumble on the way for the famous spin on things. NetEase slid in with Eggy Party, then we can add Thetan Rivals on top of that.
These are off the top of my head, and we haven’t even mentioned that the progenitor of them all, Fall Guys, is on mobile via the Epic Store. And yes, of course, every genre has its clones and its copies, but it feels so much more prevalent here because gameplay is all they have.

Pudgy Party lets you be a penguin, and Stumble Guys is crossing over with big names quite frequently, but those are surface attractions. And let’s be fair, you can probably dress up as a penguin in some of these, too. But when the mini-games are all the same, and there's no story or characters to bond with, we are just left with soulless copies.
This is not to say don’t try Pudgy Party, mind you, unless you don’t want to support a blockchain and NFT company. It is scheduled to release fully on August 29th on iOS and Android for free, so by all means, try it out. Or perhaps just squint and pick up Eggy Party instead. At least that one allows more than 20 players in a match. At the very least, that positions Pudgy Party to be suitable for those with a tight schedule who can only fit in a short party round.
