Perchang World launches on Apple Arcade and I worry for its chances
As much as I love James Acaster, can he thrive with a limited audience?
While I am fully prepared for download numbers to prove me wrong, I feel that Perchang World might have shot itself in the foot with its game plan. With a recent launch on Apple Arcade and nowhere else, developer Perchang has limited its audience quite a bit, and its USP is also a worry.
I am not talking about gameplay there. Perchang World looks like a decent romp, such as it is. You will travel across a myriad of biomes and solve puzzles where you have to guide colored balls to their designated resting place. Sounds easy on its own, but of course it's not that simple.
There's a host of obstacles in your way and alien ships popping up to cause a ruckus. Luckily, you have your own tools to combat these, such as springboards and many other things that make you jump in the air. Perchang World is very much into bouncing, apparently.

James Acaster is hilarious, but does everyone agree?
My “issue”, as it were, is with the Narrator, voiced by popular comedian James Acaster. Now, I am a massive fan personally; his Netflix standups are hilarious, as are his appearances on Mock the Week and Taskmaster. Tremendously funny man, but not everyone's cup of tea.He will accompany you on your journey, making quips about progress, the story, and other general one-liners with his sardonic style, which is perfect if you are a fan. If you aren’t, then that's going to grate after about five minutes. And that leads us to our problem: you mute the game, you take away the USP.
I am not saying Perchang World is bad. I am simply saying this: not everyone subscribed to Apple Arcade is a puzzle fan, and those who are might be turned off by any comedian narrator. And I honestly don’t see any puzzler making me drop $6.99 on an Apple Arcade subscription when I can grab a Sudoku app for free.
Perchang World is available on Apple Arcade now.
