If you have ever read any of my articles even tangentially related to Norse mythology, you will know I am a huge fan. Especially if they introduce the most adorable little fox-wolf cub in existence. Soon we will all be able to delve deep into an MMO steep in this very mythology, as Kakao Games confirms Odin: Valhalla Rising will launch globally this year.

Starting with the best news, and the obvious since we are covering it on a mobile site, this MMORPG will feature cross-play between mobile and PC. This is perfect because if you ever give me access to Valhalla, I need to be able to get there on demand.

Unfortunately, Odin’s hallowed halls are not a major location you can rampage through. Instead, there are four regions available on launch; Midgard, Jotunheim, Nidavellir, and Alfheim, with more to follow in future updates. You can explore these lands on mounts both on-land and flying, with developers Lionheart Studios claiming there are minimal loading screens to interrupt your adventures.

There are four classes to choose from when you begin your journey; the frontline Warrior, sneaky Rogue, supportive Priest, and mystical Sorceress. If you ask me, utterly unacceptable class names. Where is the Viking? The Seidhr magician? Even the advanced classes lack the Nordic flair on the whole. Missed opportunities and I am furious!

Whilst we don’t have a solid release date, we do have one for pre-registration. This will open on April 3rd, along with name and server reservations. You will have to act fast to get that name you want though, as Valhalla Rising has already proven a hit in Asia. There have been over 17 million downloads, claiming the title of highest-grossing game in Korea and Taiwan. It stayed at the top of the Google Play charts for 17 weeks in the former too, giving you an idea of just how special this game could be. Plus, Norse.
