Any budding linguists out there can whip out their phones in joy, as excellently named developers Karate Possum Games has released its word game, Qwert. You will be able to put your dictionary knowledge to the test and do battle with others to prove who truly is the next Samuel Johnson.

One of the first things you will notice about Qwert is its striking graphical choices. Harkening back to that bygone age before computers, you will have that delightful clicking and ding of typewriters, along with some suitably fancy-looking paper aesthetics. And if that impresses you, wait for the gameplay. The most fun way to experience Qwert is through one of the multiplayer modes; either Time Attack or Wordplay. Time Attack is as you would expect, you race an opponent to make as many words as you can to get a better score. You will be given prompts to word around, such as something that starts with Tel, and then engage in a battle of wordy wits.

Our second head-to-head mode is Wordplay, which is a much slower and somewhat more challenging mode. You will again be given some prompt, but this time to aim is to simply get the longest word within the time limit, so you have time to think about it. Whether you prefer a methodical or a manic style, the competitive modes have you covered.

If you have an irrational hatred of little flying bugs, then the solo Splat mode is one for you. In a survival mini-game, you will be beset by swarms of flying letters, which you must swat away by creating words from the letters. If you manage to clear the screen you will get more time, so think fast and get a high score.

Qwert is available to download now from the App Store and Google Play.
