Embrace a new way to fill up your Pokedex in Pokemon Go with Routes

Pokemon Go has today released a new feature to evolve the way that Trainers go about their catch-em ways; Routes. A community tool, players can share their best paths to hunt for Pokemon, attack gyms, or just their favourite way to enjoy their surroundings.

Routes is a new way to go about your Pokemon hunting ways. Starting at a Pokestop, players are any level are able to start recording their own paths for whatever purpose; whether it is a nice scenic walk or one that hits multiple raids. Then, you can upload this for any other trainer to follow. As you walk along your selected path, you will receive a nice variety of buffs, bonuses and rewards as you travel along your way. Most importantly, however, is that different types of Pokemon will pop up for you to catch. The route will continue running in the background if you put your phone down, although that rather defeats the object of the whole thing surely.

One of my personal concerns when I heard that Routes would run in the background was what if I start recording, forget, and then leave a Pokemon-filled map to my house? Well luckily, a Route needs to start and then end at Pokestops, so there is no chance of that possibly specific fear.

There is one caveat for Routes, however, and that is they have to range from 0.1 to 1km, which is fairly short. Of course, this can be mitigated by doing one Route to a Pokestop, then starting another to the next and so on, but it does blunt the effectiveness for those of us who live in the countryside or out of the way places where there are fewer stops around to link up with.

Pokemon Go is available to download now from the App Store and Google Play.
